Could your business survive without access to its critical apps for five days?
Think about the critical applications that you use to run your business. Now ask yourself the question, “How long could my business survive without them?” A few days? A couple of weeks? It is a question that not many businesses ask themselves until there is a serious outage. And no, just because some of your applications are in the cloud does not make them magically immune to outages. All of the cloud vendors have had serious outages, and some have lost data as a result.
We have all seen the statistics regarding businesses that have a serious outage of hardware or applications, or both. A high percentage go out of business within a couple of years. While a good disaster recovery plan will alleviate some of the pain, DR remains a decidedly after-the-fact mitigation, as it will not prevent an outage from occurring in the first place. Then there is always the possibility that a DR will fail or be incomplete. Disaster recovery is only half of the picture.
While it is very important to be able to recover from an outage, it is also just as equally important to prevent the outage from happening in the first place. The ability to detect failing hardware, applications and databases before they fail, and have the opportunity to take corrective action to ensure that there is not an outage is paramount. This is where network monitoring and management (NMM) solutions come into play.
A well designed NMM solution can detect developing issues in network equipment, hardware, applications and databases before they evolve into outages. Being able to detect and correct an issue can mean the difference between a short-term scheduled downtime and an unplanned downtime that can last for days, and require DR.
Sounds simple doesn’t it. Just go out and get yourself a NMM solution. Unfortunately it is not that easy. Many of the NNM vendor solutions on the market are expensive, complex, and inflexible. Even if you can afford them, many of these solutions are so complex that they require technical talent to install and use them, technical talent that you may not have and cannot afford. This is why Vallum Software was founded, to deliver a NMM solution that was far less complex, expensive, and far more flexible than those solutions on the market today. Our goal was to develop a solution that was in reach of all organizations, and one that could keep up with changing business requirements with a microservice architectural approach.
Take our solution for a spin. There is a free fully functional trial download available on our website, and we welcome any ideas for new microservice applications, and enhancements to the interface.
